| The Olympic Competition,which has the long process of development in China,usesexaminations to test students’ intelligence and their knowledge of school subjects. Thepurposes of the competition are to stimulate students’ interests in learning and promotingtheir comprehensive development. When the importance of life-long education is deeplyrooted in the people’s minds, they change their roles from passive recipients of education toinitiative people who take initiative, so many students want to receive the OlympicCompetition training. Otherwise, under the direction of the idea of initiatively gaining theextracurricular knowledge, there exists an educational phenomenon that the OlympicCompetition training is really popular in the educational market. Behind this educationalphenomenon that everyone wants to receive the training, there must be some reasons thatstudents, their parents and schools all long to be involved in these affairs. What academicfunctions does the Olympic Competition training have as an educational activity? Does itreally promote the students’ comprehensive development? The Olympic Competition ‘scurrent situations has become an urgent and valuable topic of discussion due to these issues.With the research methods of theoretical study and interview, this text focuses on thewhole market of the Olympic Competition training in Changchun. Based on the analysis ofthe research origins and meanings, this text gives an explanation for the objectivity of theOlympic Competition training, and at the same time briefly looks back on the course of theOlympic Competition training. Besides above, this text analyzes the reasons from theperspectives of students, their parents, coaches and schools; and draws a conclusion mainlyabout the current situations of the Olympic Competition training. Seeing through theappearance to the essence, this text finds some problems of the Olympic Competitiontraining.There are three main reasons for the Olympic Competition training:students develop theirability to gain knowledge,cultivate their logical thinking and intellictual levels,and promotestheir comprechensive development in all courses.The research shows irrationality in thefollowing areas:Some of the Olympic Competition training does not follow the law ofchildren’s physical and mental development, the purposes of some students’ receiving theOlympic Competition training have changed, and many schools take the performances in theOlympic Competition as the only standard to estimate the students’ intelligence that leads toa serious utilitarian tendency. At the end of this text, it purposely makes some suggestions onthe development of the Olympic Competition training, which can guide students’ parents tomake choices rationally, help schools provide students with diverse education, reduce the functions of the Olympic Competition to select students, highlight the functions of promotingthe students’ development, and spread the fine educational ideas. |
