With the deepening of curriculum reform, teaching mode need to change fromindoctrination method to "student-centered, teacher-led" which the New Curriculumrequires. Among the many teaching methods, the group discussion method can largelyreflect the dominate position of the student,and train the communication skills and creativity.However, only the scientific application of group discussion method can achieve the resultwhich mobilize the enthusiasm of the students and improve the learning efficiency. This paperincludes four parts which to study group discussion of geography classroom.The first part analyzes the research of the group discussion methodThe second part discusses the significance and analyzes the theoretical basis of the groupdiscussion. Both of these provide the scientific foundation of the group discussion.The third part, through student questionnaires, the author summarizes some problemsof the group discussion application. In another aspect, the author analyzes reasons fromteacher, student and society. Ultimately, the author provides some solving strategies.The fourth part lists some common application modes of the geography groupdiscussion.In addition, in order to let the front-line teacher have a reference when apply thismethod this part carry out case comparing.
