Homework is one indispensable part of the teaching process in senior high school. It isviewed as the supplement and continuity of classroom teaching. English homework, as a testand feedback of teaching effect, helps students to digest, consolidate and put the knowledgethat they have learned in class into practice. Besides, it plays a key role in enhancing teachingquality and efficiency. It works as an efficient way to cultivate students’ self-learning abilityand improve overall language proficiency.Howard Gardner puts forward "the theory of multiple intelligences" and thinks thatintelligence is a kind of ability with which people can solve the problems and create somenew kinds of products. The traditional intelligence theory is very narrow because onlyverbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical are concluded. However, Gardner believes thatintelligences should be mutiple and conclude eight intelligences such as verbal-linguisticintelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, visual-spatial intelligence, bodily-kinestheticintelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence.Based on "the theory of multiple intelligences", Gardner thinks that treating all the students inthe same way is not appropriate while in the practical application of this theory teachersshould make suggestions and improvement advises towards senior high school Englishhomework optimization.Vykotsky, an initiator of the sociocultural historical school and one of the founders ofSoviet Russian mental science, puts forward the theory of the zone of proximal developmentaround1930. It focuses on the distance between students’ existing development and students’ development which is about to reach soon. English teachers are enlightened by this theorythat they pay attention to the differences between students’ existing study ability and students’potential study ability. What’s more, doing English homework is a practical means to developstudents’ potential study ability.The thesis aims at investigating the feasibility of senior high school English homeworkoptimization from the perspective of Multiple Intelligence Theory and The Zone of ProximalDevelopment. The participants of this study are the120students in Class1and Class2inGrade1of Xinzheng No.1Senior High School. Questionnaires, interviews and test methodsare used to understand the problems of the present senior high school English homework, forexample, the traditional senior high school English homework is represented by unitaryhomework form, large homework amount, lacking pertinence, lacking content and so on. In along term, many students become tired of English so that they gradually lost interest inlearning English. The author applies the Independent Samples T Test, Group Statistics andPaired-samples T Test of SPSS11.5to analyze the data. The data analysis shows that seniorhigh school English homework optimization is feasible and worth promting. The author alsogives some suggestions about senior high school English homework optimization:comprehensive and diversity on English homework; hierarchy and ductility on Englishhomework; practical and exploratory English homework and process-oriented and evaluativeEnglish homework.
