With the development of networking, informatization and learning society in21st century, the new round of curriculum reform had come in time. The curriculumreform maintains a student-centered, however, as the same time, it asks teacher havemore highly degree of the teacher professional development. And Teachers’ guide, asthe important curriculum materials to improve help for teacher’s teaching, wasconsidered to be an important material to help teacher’s learning. So, this study willtakes English teachers’ guide as an example, and takes three versions Englishteachers’ guide(PEP/Beijing Normal University press/Foreign Language Teaching andResearch Press) as the research objects, to inspect the function of English teachers’guide. And its aims to clarify the function positioning of English teaches’ guide underthe new era, and then propose appropriate recommendations for improvement ofEnglish teachers’ guide.The main ideas of this thesis are as following:Chapter one: Introduction. It elaborates the origin,purpose, questions and themethods of this study.Chapter two: Literature Review. Firstly, define the key concepts or theoriesinvolved in this study. Which includes is Teacher’s guide, Teacher learning, Englishteachers’ professional knowledge, Teacher professional development stagetheory.Secondly, combed the research of primary and secondary teachers’ guide athome and abroad.Chapter three: Elaborate the functional transformation of our primary andsecondary English teachers’ guide under this new era. Based on the teachers’ guidetraditional positioning and the characteristics of this new era, the paper describe thepossibility and necessity of teachers’ guide function from the original "reference" to"promote teacher learning or professional development". And then try to define thefunction of teacher professional development of primary and secondary Englishteachers’ guide.Chapter four: Through questionnaires and textual analysis to examine thefunction of teacher professional development of existing primary and secondaryEnglish teachers’ guide.Chapter five: Build the design framework for the English Teacher’s guide. Based on the functional transformation of our existing primary and secondary Englishteachers’ guide and the current status of its function, the paper offer the designframework to the English teacher’s guide in our own country.
