Based on the cognitive load theory, this thesis focus on the interfacedesign of conversational language learning applications and proposes theinterface optimized strategy on this basis. The research methods mainlytaken are induction, subjective assessment, task and performancemeasurement and usability testing. Following is the sudy process: havingthe theoretical research and analyzing the the characteristics of the interfaceof the market products. And then selecting the representative application tohaving testing to evaluate the cognitive load and explore problems. Basedon this, an interface optimized strategy has been proposed and the designoptimization has been taken. In the end, the study evaluates the validity ofthe design optimization by testing with the high fidelity prototype.Cognitive load theory is a theory that studies the law of cognition andlearning. It’s widely used in education and cognitive psychology research.Cognitive load theory has a significant impact in the field of instructionaldesign and learning study. Throngh the collection and analysis of therelevant products, this study summarizes the types and interface features ofthe conversational language learning applications. Combined with cognitiveload theory, the navigation module, the information module and the assistmodule have been analyaed. And then, the study selects Nemo as therepresentative application to evaluate the cognitive load and exploreusability problems. Based on the study above, the interface design of theapplication has been optimized. Through testing, it can find that the learningeffect and using experience have improved after interface optimized.The study shows that the difficult point in mobile language learning with conversational applications is schema building. Combined with thespecific design practice, the interface optimized strategies like meaningchunk grouping, scenario sketch and grammar debris have been proposed.
