In mathematics studying,gender difference is always an important part of people’s concerning and studying. In the stage of primary school, gender difference in athematics learning is not obvious; after entering junior high school, the difference between male and female students in mathematics learning shows gradually, especially from the beginning of the geometry learning in the second grade of middle school. Therefore, pay more attention to study the gender difference in mathematics learning of junior middle school, is very important to improve the mathematics course’s teaching, reforming and the mathematics quality of students.This paper put some students of the eighth middle school in Hubei Huangshi city as t he research object, through the research methods of interview, questionnaire survey, perfor mance analysis, and study the mathematics learning differences of boys and girls in junior high school.The result of the Investigation shows that: there is little difference of male and female students in the environmental perception and cognitive abilities. There is a big difference of male and female students in the attribution of success, anxiety, personality characteristic s, learning motivation and cognitive structure.In the results, there is a little gap between th e seventh and the nineth grade stage of male and female students, and the eight grade stage difference is bigger, at the same time, the boys are better than girls.Based on the investigation result, psychology and education theory, the paper nalyzes the causes of gender difference from the aspects of intellectual factors, non intellectual factors, physiological factors and environmental factors, and suggest to narrow gender difference through improving the "stereotype" of teachers, the implementation of "teaching by gender", etc.
