Teacher question is an important component of class teaching and learning, and is one of necessary teaching practice to organize class and present teaching contents. Comprehension check question, as one of the subtypes of teacher questions, means that teachers ask questions to check student’s understandings. Current studies in China mainly focus on general research of teacher questions’ classifications, strategies, and skills, lacking further researches on comprehension check questions. Thus, there is less theoretical and practical achievements. During the internship and the research process, the author finds out that some attentions need to be paid and some problems need to be settled on comprehension check questions represented by “any question?’ to check students’ understanding, especially on the responses and management of comprehension check questions, teachers and student hold different expectations and attitudes to such questions.Inspired by the above mentioned questions, this paper, based on the literature review, takes the English Teaching Competition of Senior High School in Huanggang in 2013 as research sources, trying to promote by way of classroom observations and questionnaires. Relevant data are analyzed by SPSS.According to classroom observation and SPSS analysis, the author finds out that: 1. In current English reading class, 15.93% of teacher questions are comprehension check questions which are represented in the form of “any question?’, but only 6 out of 11 types are used by teachers. 2. Students prefer “no-problem” response format to answer such questions. 3. Teachers need to manage such questions in different ways in different context. 4. There are big differences on teachers and students’ expectations and attitudes to such questions.Therefore, more attention should be paid to research of comprehension check questions to observe and solve some common and urgent problems to comprehensions check questions. Researchers should do more researches on English teaching in senior high schools; teachers should improve their academic qualities and competences, and lead students through various positive ways.
