Nowadays, there have been a variety of changes among language learners with their knowledge enlarged, their self-awareness enhanced and their enthusiasm boosted, where one’s self-awareness belongs to self-concept and one’s enthusiasm to learning motivation. Basing on this feature, this research intends to find out whether there is a certain kind of relationship between self-concept and language learning motivation.Document Analysis Method and Questionnaire Method would be applied and Self-concept Questionnaire and English Learning Motivation Scale would be adopted to measure the general self-concept as well as English self-concept, the motivation styles and strength of their English learning of 226 students of Senior One and Two from Chongqing Nankai Secondary School. Eventually, the statistics would be analyzed by the software called SPSS 19.0.As is shown in the survey, the scores of Senior Two are much higher than those of Senior One and there is an obvious linear correlation among the general self-concept, English self-concept and English learning motivation. Consequently, teachers would be advised to pay close attention to the transferring period when students come to senior high school to study and the ways to enhance students’ self-concept in order to sustain their English learning motivation. |
