In the second language learning process, learners have significant differences. Among the differences, self-concept of a learner in emotion difference is a crucial influencing factor in English learning and is widely concerned by researchers at home and abroad. The present study aims to research the characteristics of senior high school students' English academic self-concept and its relation to English learning achievement.Three major questions are examined in the study. First, what is the correlation between English academic self-concept of senior high school students and English learning achievement? Second, what is the correlation between specific English self-concept dimensions and English learning achievement? Third, how the gender and grade-level influence senior high school students' English academic self-concept and their learning achievement. Results of the statistical analysis are as follows:first, the study finds that English academic self-concept of senior high school students has a significant positive correlation with their English learning achievement. The general English academic self-concept and reading self-concept of students have positive effects on their English learning achievement which can predict the English learning achievement. Second, specific-domain self-concepts are related to general self-concept, and among them English reading self-concept has the largest correlation with general English self-concept. English general self-concept also has an obvious positive correlation with English speaking self-concept. Third, there exists a grade-level difference in English academic self-concept. The higher grade-level the students are, the higher general English academic self-concept the students get. Still there exists a significant gender difference in English academic self-concept of students the general English self-concept and reading self-concept in male students are lower than these of females. In this study, suggestions are given for senior high school English teachers and students. In the English learning process, English teachers should attach more importance to the effect and the influence of English academic self-concept of students and help students to get correct understanding and form positive English academic self-concept, and students of senior high school also need to take great efforts to develop their English academic self-concept so that students can improve their English learning achievement.
