More than 2000 years ago, Confucius taught disciples that "gentleman is slow in words but prompt in deeds. " As the time goes, the society becomes modern with high-tech, more information and high efficiency. Oral communication has become the most basic and most important form of communication. The importance of eloquence has become more and more important as well. The Senior Chinese Curriculum Standard (Experimental manuscript) which is issued in 2003 by the Ministry of Education clearly states that:"pay attention to the characteristics of oral and express properly according to communicative situations and purposes. Use intonation, tone of voice, facial expression and gestures to enhance the effects of oral communication ", and also" learn how to give a speech which is opinionated, full of materials, lively and elegant, persuasive and appealing "--it is clear demands on the students’ speaking ability. Confronting social reality and curriculum needs, the training for oral ability has received more attention, and has become an integral part of language teaching. "Speech before the Chinese Class" is an important form of oral language training. It is a kind of learning activity which is held within the first few minutes under the guidance of a teacher. In the activity, one of the students give a speech to the class first, and then the teacher and the other students comment. This article takes " Speech before the Chinese Class in high school" as the object of study, focusing on three issues—— "theory needs to be studied, the practice has yet to be perfected, the value function also needs to clear".This study develops the exploring using literature, investigation, classroom observation and case. The paper consists of four chapters.The first chapter defined the "Speech before the Chinese Class", describes the difference and contact with the meaning of "speech" and "oral communication"; analyze the related research on "eloquence", and "speech" "oral communication" both at home and abroad; show questionnaire survey results and conclude the current problems:students’passive participation mainly, not enough attention paid to the students, evaluation mechanism not enough perfect, actual results below expected.In the second chapter, the psychology of listening and speaking, humanism, learning motivation theories and so on are reviewed and, by its features, elements, respectively, show the theory’s inspiration to undertake speaking engagements before class.The third chapter give a whole description of the activity’s practical function to the students, teachers and the class. To the students, it helps to the develop oral and written capacity and learning capacity, and train innovation capacity, and pioneer culture vision, and enhance language learning of interest motivation, and rich emotional experience and develop sound personality. On teachers’level, it helps to grasp all students, and to implement the teaching task and to generate teaching wisdom. On the level of discipline and class, it helps implementation language unique of discipline nature, and creating a positive and harmonious classroom atmosphere. In addition, this chapter also noted that operators must follow the four principles, and described in detail.The fourth chapter of the thesis, basing on the scene of " Speech before the Chinese Class " examples as well as the theoretical and functional basis, and to solve the problems mentioned in the first chapter, refined some strategies which can be used in the activity.This study focuses on the status of " Speech before the Chinese Class ", generally demonstrate some general strategies which have the practical value, aims to provide a new way of classroom culture building and provides some practical references.
