| As policy makers and executors, the efficiency of work and living of civil servants is directly associated with their status of health and physical constitutions. Low level of awareness towards one’s own health and physical constitution is a common issue especially existing in the group of middle-aged male civil servant, as social, family and work commitments leave them with not much time and energy for exercise or sport. It is proposed tai chi is a good form for improve the fitness of mentioned group, as it allows one to cultivate the mind, develop the skills of self-defense, improve fitness and it can be practiced conveniently. The research is conducted with a focus on the impact of tai chi on the physical constitutions of mentioned group, aims to provide an experiential ground.The objective of the research is to study the impact of practicing tai chi on improving one’s fitness, explore the feasible approaches of integrating Chinese traditional sport with modern way of fitness program; the paper aims to provide a theoretical ground for mentioned issue in accordance to nation’s strategic plan by taking an experimental approach, a number of tai chi practicing middle-aged male civil servants were chosen and their fitness indices were closed being monitored and recorded, on which the analysis of the paper is based.Research method is stated as follow, the studied participants were those of middle-aged male servants in Changchun, without any serious organic disease, aged between 45-54 non-practitioners of tai chi. They were divided into two age groups(45-49 and 50-54), a total number of 120 participants joined the study, 62 of them were in the group of 45-49 years old and the rest belongs to the groups of 50-54 years old. Four physical fitness texts were carried out, when before the experiment, fourth week of learning tai chi, eighth week and sixteenth week of practicing tai chi, and then the data were analyzed.The results have shown show that BMI index has been lowered obviously by the eighth week and the body fat rate has been lowered by the sixth week, T value of bone mineral density had been increasing although it was not obvious.It has also shown that the indices of organic functions such as heart rate rest, blood pressure, step index, pulmonary capacity have been improved by the eighth week of practicing.The physical constitution factors such as grip strength, reactive time when making a choice, standing up with one leg and eyes closed, leaning forward when sitting, have been shown to be improved by the sixteenth week, and the difference was deemed to be substantial.The paper concluded that by practicing tai chi mid-aged male civil servant can improve their physical constitutions and organic fitness, as well as body shape. Although it has shown that there has no obvious improvement in BMI index, body fat rate and grip strength, yet it is recommended that tai chi should be practiced in the long term. |
