The Research On The Present Situation、problems And Countermeasures Of The Parenting Style Of ‘the Second Generation Of Only Child’?

Single child is a characteristic of Chinese family. Some of the first generation of ‘the only child’ have given birth to ‘the second generation of only child’. The parenting style of ‘the second generation of only child’ has its own characteristics. It has an important significance on the guidance of the child’s world view, values and sustainable development. This paper presents the current parenting style of ‘the second generation of only child’, the factors influencing family parenting styles, and put forward some suggestions and countermeasures.In this paper, the quantitative and qualitative research is used to analyze the present situation of ‘the second generation of only child’ parenting style, and put forward the countermeasures to improve the ‘the second generation of only child’ parenting style.The "Parenting Style Scale "(EMBU) is used to conduct a survey to senior students of a Shanghai primary school. The results are as follows:(1) The families have ‘the second generation of only child’ are families of multi-level and multi-types structures.(2) Parents of ‘the second generation of only child’ families have higher educational levels, better economic conditions, and higher expectations.(3) The parents work busily, so ‘the second generation of only child’ are mostly reared by grandparents.(4) There is no significant difference in dimensions of parenting style.(5) Father’s working length has significant differences in emotional warmth and understanding, and no significant differences in the excessive interference, severe punishment, refusal and denial, excessive protection. Mother’s working length has no significant difference in every dimension of parenting style.This research further the problem of ‘the second generation of only child’ parenting style, and put forward the countermeasures to improve the parenting styles, promote parents’ literacy, create a good atmosphere,strengthen home-school communication, and promote the healthy growth of children.
