Parent-child trust is not only the foundation of attachment and parent-child relationship, butalso the formation of the various relationships (such as peer relationship, teacher-studentrelationship, etc.). And family is an important place for children to live in, so parenting orparenting style may play an important role on the development of parent-child trust. Therefore,the aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of parenting (parental monitoringand parent support) and parenting style (authoritarian, authoritative and connivance) onpatent-child trust. A cross-sectional sample of922second, fourth and sixth graders completed theParent-Child Trust Scale, Parental Monitoring Scale, Parents Support Scale and Parenting StyleScale from the project about psychological development of Chinese children and teenagers. Themain findings were as follows:(1) Only the children of grade2reported more trust to parents than the children of grade6.(2) Parenting could influence parent-child trust, and there were grade differences. There wasdirect effect of parental monitoring on parent-child trust of all grades. However, only parentsupport of grade4had direct effect on parent-child trust. And the children of grade6had thehighest total explanation of parenting on parent-child trust.(3) Only the authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles had direct effect on parent-childtrust, and there was no grade difference. The total explanation of parenting style on parent-childtrust increased with increasing age.(4) There were no direct effects of parenting styles on parent-child trust, rather than viaparenting on parent-child trust, namely the effect of parenting styles on parent-child trust wascompletely mediated by parenting of all grades. And the children of grade6had the highest totalexplanation of parenting and parenting styles on parent-child trust.
