Study On The Relationship Between The Development Prospect And The Values Of Professional Counselors

"The CPC Central Committee and State Council on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education of opinions"(No. [2004] Document) states that, counselors, with the dual identity of teachers and cadres, are an important part of the teaching staff and management team of the institutions of higher education. Colleges and universities should make a sound establishment and gradual improvement of the incentive and guarantee mechanism for the promotion of the administrative ranks of counselors; also, they should establish and improve the series of professional titles of counselors in college and universities, which requests solving the employment issue of the counselors based on the reality of the professional team of the ideological and political education of the undergraduates in order to encourage and support the counselors to focus on their proper duties. As the comprehensive reform of higher education deepens constantly, the key role of counselors is highlighted. Thus, on the basis of the career development theory and identity theory, the research on the development prospect and vocational value of the counselors is not only of profound theoretical values but also remarkable practical significances.This study probes into how the development prospect of the counselors influences their vocational value based on the career development theory and identity theory. Combining the methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis, it analyzes the promotion of the administrative ranks and the assessment of impact of the professional titles on the counselors’ professional purpose, professional attitude, professional sensibility and professional ethics by the questionnaire survey and intensive interview to the counselors. It makes a comprehensive and systematic study of the internal relationship of the development prospect and the vocational value of the counselors.The empirical result shows that, to a certain extent, the development prospect influences the stabilization of the counselors’ professional purpose, the formation of their professional attitude, the development of their professional sensibility and the cultivation of their professional ethics.Therefore, to guarantee the professional development prospect for the counselors is essential to strengthening the building of their vocational values. This study presents that, through the improvement and perfection of a scientific and rational promotion mechanism of the career ranks of the counselors, to set up supporting rules and regulations for the career ranks of counselors; to establish a scientific and rational assessment mechanism for the promotion of them; to vigorously promote the competitive employment way to achieve the promotion of their career ranks; to improve the supervision and guarantee mechanism for the promotion of their career rank. It also includes establishing and improving the practical regularities for the assessment of the professional titles of the counselors: to build a independent system of the counselors’ professional titles; to develop and refine their education promotion program; to encourage and guide the counselors to carry out scientific research; to incorporate their working condition into the evaluation. On this account, the career promotion and title assessment could be improved and the establishment of the vocational value of the counselors could be promoted.
