In the information age, due to the rapid development of Internet and television, the children have a variety of entertainment life, the attractive of reading to them is declining, which disturbed most of us. It is an urgent necessary for us to improve the proportion of reading in the children’s spiritual life. In order to cultivate the reading interest of children, we should start from the lower grade of elementary school. Picture book is a very useful resource for improving children’s reading interest. It is given priority to the drawing, which provide picture with rich imagination space, and convey the story plot. Compared with the ordinary text, picture book can more stimulate the children’s interest and accord with the characteristics and habits of children’s early reading.Based on Piaget’s cognitive development theory, Comenius and Ushinski’s intuitive teaching theory, Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory as the guidance, this paper analyzes the value of picture book reading teaching in lower grade, and states the present situation through interviews and observation, puts forward the corresponding improvementstrategy according to the situation. The ideal of the picture book teaching of lower grade is not used as a tool of language learning, not tell the story, not outmatch the children with own knowledge and experience, But respect the children’s individualized reading, lead the children to find something by themselves. let the children experience the joy of reading by the appreciation for the rich picture in picture books,the felling for this beautiful language in the painting, the imagination of surprise story plot, the finding of all sorts of amazing and beautiful in the process of reading. This paper consists of four parts. Part one is the preface, mainly illustrated the reason of selected topic, literature review,research ideas and methods. The second part analyses the concept and traits of picture book, points out the theory basis and value of picture books reading teaching in elementary school lower grade. The third part in-depth analysis the current situation of picture book reading teaching by some cases. The last part provides the improvement strategy of picture books reading teaching according to the current situation in the elementary school lower grade.
