Urban expansion in the simulation of space and time and the scientific prediction for the healthy development of the city, city functional and space optimization significance day by day prominent.Changsha as the "Two-oriented Society" new experimental area and the national urbanization pilot cities, with its "mountain, water, city, state," the construction of the concept and the national famous historical and cultural city protection targets, its urban expansion and space optimization research are available for the country’s new urbanization development, building the sustainable development of urban space provides the experience for reference and demonstration. Therefore, research of urban expansion characteristics and driving force analysis, to grasp the law of Changsha, optimizing space layout, improving the quality of space research become the emphasis in this paper.First of all, this research is on the basis of the theoretical study and research summary both at home and abroad, to comb and induce Changsha city space form, structure evolution and city spatial expansion of the current situation and problems. Secondly, with the support of RS technology, GIS technology, through the SLEUTH - 3R model reconstruction of historical period of Changsha urban spatial evolution process, based on different policy and land use mode set four urban expansion, for the future urban expansion in 2011-2030 in Changsha city for prediction and analysis. Finally, the extension of Changsha city driving force and trend are analyzed, and put forward the urban expansion spatial optimization ideas and policy Suggestions. Running the model results show that the model SLEUTH-3R applied to urban expansion simulation and prediction, spatial resolution selection is very important. By simulating the reconstruction of Changsha City history, summed up the Changsha City growth driving force for the natural environment, economic development, urban population, traffic construction and policy strategy five factors; SLEUTH-3R model simulation scheme,30m spatial resolution of the simulation result is superior to 100m, scattered concentration scenario simulation scheme outperforms the other simulation schemes.The results show that: Based on the simulation results, predict the future expansion of Changsha City population and the scale of construction land continues to grow, things are non balanced expansion, follow the tour-type expansion development axis and small towns continued to promote the city city expanded four challenges and four major trends in industrial park expansion and construction of two recombinant social security, space 6000000 population scale supply and ecological conservation, expand the space to enhance the quality of the transformation of the old city and new city construction and actively promote the construction of new towns to villages and towns; selection based on the results of the simulation scenario analysis scheme and hot, city growth driving force factors of East extension increased horizontal contact axis, provided North South extension services to strengthen the Xiangjiang axis and realize the function dislocation multi group three space optimization method based on common prosperity, and ecological space, industrial space, traffic space construction and town space optimization layout measures four.
