With the development of mathematics education in middle school and the promo-tion of the actual needs, resolving the mathematical application problems has gradually become the core of mathematics teaching in middle school. Mathematical application problems is a bridge between mathematics theory and actual life, fully deserve to become an important carrier of cultivating students’ consciousness of application and improve the ability of problem solving, but "The mathematical application problems is difficult to learn or teach" is a long-standing problems of teachers and students.Based on a deep understanding of the "new curriculum", this paper adopts the method of questionnaire, interview, test method, conducted a survey on the ability to solve mathematical application problems among junior middle school students. This investigation shows that the overall level of students’ ability is not high, the specific performance:(1). Students generally feel that it is difficult to solve the mathematical application problems, and most of the students could not get a ideal score in each test.(2). Many students do not pay enough enthusiasm on studying the mathematical application problems. For example, they could not prepare well for their mathematic lessons and do not finish their mathematic homework.(3). The basic knowledge of mathematics is not solid. For example, they could not classify the application questions and could not build the relevant model.(4). Their reading comprehension ability is deficient. They can not understand the text or they can not read the text entirely. They also can not change the chart information, the symbol information and the text information into mathematical symbols, information.(5). The capacity of calculation is badly needs to be improved. Although they can understand the text, also can list the formula, but a wrong done.(6). Lack of life experience, most students do not understand the terminology used in daily life and they feel it is difficult for them to deal with problem in a new situation.(7). Most students have poor psychological quality. They feel fear when they face difficult problems and they do not desire to cope with it. They just want to give up.Through interviews and questionnaire analysis and test of volume, we found that the main factors which play an important role when junior high school students were the following:(1). Lack of life experience;(2). The students have a weak reading comprehension ability;(3). Difficulty factor of the mathematical application problems;(4). The ability of computing;(5). The degree of the students mastering the basic knowledge of the knowledge;(6). Their problem-solving skills, mathematical thinking habits;(7). Metacognition level of students’ the mathematical application problems;(8). Students’ non-intellectual factors.Aiming at the influence factor of students learning the mathematical application problems, I put forward the corresponding teaching strategies:(1). Broaden the knowledge and life knowledge of students;(2). Teach them how to read and enhance students’ ability to understand the math-ematical application problems;(3). Teach them the skill of solving the mathematical application problems;(4). Cultivating students’ basic quality of solving the mathematical application problems in practice;(5). Strengthen students’ metacognitive training;(6). Preventing the students from non-intelligence factor in solving the mathematical application problems.
