With the rapid development of the current information technology, applied mathematics has been paid great unprecedented attention; to emphasize the application of mathematics has become the main theme in mathematics educational reform. Today a new round of basic educational curriculum reform is being fully implemented, teaching of mathematical application of problems is getting more and more attention, but the problem of teaching difficultly and learning difficultly in mathematical application of problems has perplexed teachers and students long-term, and the research on teaching and learning for mathematical application of problems is less. The paper mainly researches the problems in three aspects.â‘ What is the capacity for students at junior high school to resolve mathematical application of problems?â‘¡What are the concrete manifestations of difficulties for students at junior high school to resolve mathematical application of problems?â‘¢What are the effective teaching strategies to improve students at the junior high school ability level on resolving mathematical application of problems?In this paper, by questionnaire method, interview method, experimentation, the present situation and difficulties of students at junior high school to resolve mathematical application problems was surveyed. In the investigation, it shows the general ability of students at junior high school to resolve mathematical application of problems was not high; the factors affecting the students in resolving mathematical application of problems is their mathematical foundations, their reading ability, their ability of natural language to be translated into mathematical language, their customary thinking, their computing power, their real-life experience, their psychological ability.On the research of the above mentioned, the teaching solutions to improve students in resolving mathematical application of problems are worked out, we chose a control class and a trial class to do the teaching experiment to find the solutions. By experiment, it concludes some effective teaching strategies to improve the ability of students to resolve mathematical application of problems. 1. The strategy of meta-cognition training.2. The strategy of reading ability training.3. The strategy of building model ability.4. The strategy of computing power.
