The secondary vocational school students always is the important component of Chinese undergraduates, and their mental health also has been the focus of attention from the country and society. Recently, researchers have found that the secondary vocational school students from single parent families as a special group maybe have more serious psychological problems. Meanwhile, resilience is a hot issue in the research field of positive psychology, and it has a very important role for the individual to maintain physical and mental health. Therefore, the current study was to investigate the feature of mental health and resilience for the secondary vocational school students from single parent families, and further analyzed the internal relation between them. Consequently, this study provided some theoretical foundations and methods to improve mental health of the secondary vocational school students from single parent families. To explore mental health and resilience, this study had used’Adolescent mental health diagnostic test questionnaire’ and ’Youth development and psychological elastic questionnaire’ to randomly survey 280 the secondary vocational school students from single parent families and 364 students from normal families. Then, by using independent sample t test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis and other statistical methods, this study surveyed their features, and further examined the inter relation between mental health and resilience. These results found that there was some difference of mental health and resilience for the secondary vocational school students in family’s type and gender. Specially, the secondary vocational school students from single parent families had less mental health than from normal families(*=11.97-16.98, all p<0.001); the male students had more sensitivities than female students(t=2.58, p<0.05); and there was no significant difference among grades(F=0.06-2.17, all p>0.05). Moreover, the secondary vocational school students from single parent families had lower scores than from normal families in some protective factors of resilience such as from schools, communities, families and total scores(t=-24.98--8.64, all p<0.001);the male students had lower than female students in the individual internal factois(t=-2.25, p<0.05);and there was no significant difference among grades(F=0.05-1.74, all p>0.05). Importantly, this study found that there was a significant correlation between the protective factors of resilience and mental health. There was some difference of mental health and resilience for the secondary vocational school students in family’s type. There still was some significant positive correlations between mental health and the protective factors of resilience from school, communities and families except the peers’and individual internal factors.Hence, the good resilience could improve the mental health of the secondary vocational school students from single parent families.
