With the rapid development of information technology, in the new era of talent training, information literacy has become a significant indicator for the overall quality of talents in the twenty-first century. As an important part of information literacy, information processing ability has also become an important indicator to examine the comprehensive talents in the information age. Students’ acquisition of information processing ability is a process requiring teachers to conduct purposeful training in their daily teaching programs, and is also a process highly focusing on details. The details are reflected in every link of teaching. The training of students’ abilities provided by teachers in the actual teaching practice will directly affect students’ acquisition of information processing ability. Therefore, the research and analysis of the current situation of middle school students’ information processing ability and the countermeasures will be conductive to the realization of the teaching objective of the new curriculum idea, and will have great significance for promoting the comprehensive development of students and sustainable development.Information processing is closely related to cognitive styles. In order to meet the needs of the times, to cultivate the information processing ability of biology subject for middle school students, taking Changsha city as an example, and comprehensively adopting the methods of literature review, questionnaire survey, experience summary and action research, this study researches into the middle school students for the status quo of their cognitive styles and information processing ability of biology subject. It also analyzes the relationship between students’ cognitive styles and their information processing abilities, and the factors affecting their information processing ability. Based on these analyses, it also puts forward a training program taking the teaching method of information conversion as its core. To further verify the effectiveness of the training program, the author selected two parallel classes in grade one in Changsha Twenty-first Middle School as the experimental classes and the comparing classes, and conducted a 3-month teaching practice. It is found from the research that there is a big difference in the cognitive styles among middle school students. It is also shown that cognitive styles have great influence on the information processing of middle school students, and the present situation of middle school students’ information processing ability is far from optimistic. Students were found in the teaching practice to be so eager for finding out answers when they were processing information that they usually neglected the integrity of information. For easy tasks, field–dependent students tended to complete quickly. While for relatively complicated problems, field–independent students tended to give better performance. Besides, it is also concluded that the training program put forward by this research can effectively enhance the information processing ability of biology subject for middle school students, and provide some reference for the reform of education and teaching.
