With the rapid development of mobile Internet, the global information data has grown up explosively and the tide of big data is coming turbulently. MOOC is a new mode of course triggered under the background of big data era, which is short for Massive Open Online Courses. The rising of MOOC has influence that can’t be ignored on education field in our country. The ideological and political theory course in colleges and universities is the main channel and position in the ideological and political education of college students. To discuss the challenge and innovation of the ideological and political theory course in colleges and universities caused by MOOC is necessary to carry out a series of central spirit, strengthen and improve the ideological and political education of college students. The teaching of the ideological and political theory course is unique in Beijing Sport University, so research in the challenge and innovation that the ideological and political theory course has in Beijing Sport University is good to enhance the pertinence and effectiveness of the ideological and political theory course in Beijing Sport University.This study has focused on the summary and conclusion of the development situation and the characteristics of MOOC under the background of big data technology by using literature research method. An analysis of the survey on 747 different professional students in different grades in Beijing Sport University has been conducted by using questionnaire survey method. The interviews of the leaders and teachers of the ideological and political theory course in Beijing Sport University have been carried on by using expert interview method. So the outlines of the behavior characteristics, the attitude towards the ideological and political theory course, and the cognition and needs of MOOC of the students in Beijing Sport University can be drawn.The conclusions of this study are as follows:first, students’ interest in learning the ideological and political theory course in Beijing Sport University is generally not high, lack of passion; second, the students in Beijing Sport University are less aware of MOOC but are welcome to use MOOC mode to learn; third, the challenge that the ideological and political theory course in colleges and universities faces under the trend of MOOC, which embodies in teaching content, teaching mode, teacher’s role, and teaching object; finally, MOOC has brought innovation to the ideological and political theory course, which allows to use special software to realize the application of game teaching method, use tilting classroom interaction links to strengthen the ideological and political theory course, use the MOOC curriculum mode to solve practical contradictions between students and active athletes of college students and use the timely and sensitive teaching feedback and rolling survey of MOOC to understand students’ needs of studying and ideological confusion.This study suggests that the ideological and political theory course in Beijing Sport University should conform to the trend to strengthen the understanding of MOOC, change education idea, actively build MOOC education platform, improve the professional quality, and strengthen Internet information skill training for teachers, change teaching mode, realize the combination of online and offline flip classroom teaching.
