A Study On Effect Of Context —Based English Reading Teaching On Student’ Reading Comprehension In Senior High School

Reading teaching has always been very important in teaching students how to master a foreign language. The improvement of reading comprehension has always been the goal of English teaching which re-emphasized in the new standard. This requirement or goal need the English teachers to reflect on their traditional way of teaching in which most of them focus on the explanation of language points, which has low teaching efficiency. Thus it is urgent to find a better and more effective way to improve high school students’ reading comprehension.The researcher explores the concept of context and applies context-based reading teaching method to examine whether the teaching method helps improving the students’ English reading comprehension of high school students. Specifically, the author examined what is about it like using context-based English reading teaching method for improving the reading comprehension ability of high school students in No.2 in Xiangcheng, Henan province. By doing the pretest, the author proves that the students’ reading comprehension ability is at the same level roughly in two different classes before the experiment. During the four-month experiment, the teacher applies the traditional reading teaching methods for control class and context-based reading teaching methods for experimental class respectively. As a result, there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. The English reading comprehension of experimental class has been greatly improved. Therefore, it can be concluded that the context-based reading teaching method is definitely an efficient reading strategy.
