Role play as one of the highest frequency teaching activities in senior primary English oral class, makes the material into interesting story and changes the way from boring oral English practice through establishing a situation. It has made a great progress in teaching efficiency and learning interest of oral English teaching. However, the author found many problems through searching the literature and observing the role play in senior primary English oral class. It seems that the application of role play hasn’t aroused senior primary teachers’ attention. In view of these situations above, how to construct a reasonable system of role play in senior primary oral English teaching activity and verifyits feasibility and effectiveness is the key point of this paper.On the basis of absorbing the relevant researches at home and abroad, this thesis uses the method of literature and case analysis. Firstly, identifying the problems through analyzing the relevant literatures of role play. Secondly conducting a survey, the author selected senior students of F primary school in Shi Jiazhuang of Hebei province as the respondents. Then, trying to analyze the results of the investigation for building the theoretical framework of role play in senior oral English teaching activity. At last, taking the implementation of “Year Animals” in 2014 Hebei textbook as the case to demonstrate its feasibility and effectiveness.This thesis includes six sections.The first section is the introduction. It consists of the proposed issues, the significance of this paper, literature review, the ideas, methods, and highlights of innovation.The second section is an overview of role play in senior primary oral English teaching activity. Firstly, define the concept of senior primary, oral English teaching activity and role play. Secondly, discusses theoretical basis of the research. Thirdly, clarify the type of role play. Finally, describe the functions of role play.The third section is an analysis of role play application in F senior primary oral English teaching activity. According to students’ questionnaires, teachers’ interviews and class observation, discusses the problems of role play’s application in F senior primary oral English teaching activityThe fourth section is a role play theoretical design in senior primary oral English teaching activity. In response to these problems of the survey, the role play theoretical design consists of goal design, program design and evaluation of system design.The fifth section is a practical study of role play application of “Year Animals”. Try to design and carry out “Year Animals” according to the role play theoretical design. Make a comprehensive assessment about its implementation effect through the class observation, oral test and the survey after the class.The sixth section is a conclusion. Review the whole implementation process of this study and summarize the achievements and shortcomings of this research.
