Area Computation Of Polygon And The Application Of Area Method

Plane geometry plays an important role in secondary school education, which is a significant context for the entire teaching course. The careful study of plane geometry course can effectively improve the ability of rigorous deducing and develop the good habit of geometric thinking. The knowledge of area in plane geometry and geometry develop around the same time and even it is one of the origins of geometry, which has a close relationship with our daily life. Area calculation, along with the application of the area method is a very important region in the teaching of primary and secondary schools.This paper is based on the related study of area and area method. First, it introduces a brief history of area, the concept of area and the out-in complementary principle. Second, it discusses several ways of dividing polygons into triangles, which can make the area computation of polygon transformed to the area calculation of triangle. Then it explores the triangle area formula and its proof. What’s more, this paper introduces the skillful application of area method. For example, we can use area method to prove the Pythagorean Theorem and to solve the problem of the typical right triangle and one basic quadratic equation. We can also prove the sums and differences of the two angle formula for sine and cosine with area method. At last, it introduces the simple and intuitive application of area method in the middle school mathematics problem-solving.Above all, we can conclude that area and area method have visibility and superiority and it is good for us to learn the mathematical way of thinking. Thus, we can help students improve their comprehensive problem-solving ability, have a deeper understanding of math and get rid of their fear about plane geometry. What’s more, we can help students develop their confidence and interests in math, learn geometry knowledge in an effective way and form a good quality of math thinking and high spirit of innovation.
