In the educational system in our country, English language learning begins in the primary school in general, so it plays an important role in further English learning of students for it builds a solid foundation in primary school. And English homework plays an important part not only in teachers’ teaching, but also in students’ learning. However, traditional English homework is relatively boring and most of them are mechanical training, such as reading texts, copying vocabularies. Though these kinds of homework are also necessary, but they are far away from students’ real life, which can to some extent disinterest students English learning. Therefore, it is important to improve the quality of the design and assignment of English homework in primary school so as to increase students’ learning interests and better consolidate their understanding of the knowledge they have learned in classroom.American psychologist Howard Gardner has put forward the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983. He stated that each person has at least main eight intelligences more or less, and each person has different intelligent combination. This paper is mainly focusing on how to make full use of the theory of MI in English homework design in primary school to achieve better teaching effects as far as possible and cultivate students’ English learning interests.The participants of the study of this paper are from Class Four, Grade Five and the English teacher of this class in the Experimental School Attached to Sichuan Normal University. Through the questionnaire and interview, the author wants to find the current problems of English homework in primary school. In order to optimize the English homework design, the author tries to propose some specific strategies of homework design and offer some useful homework design cases according to the theory of MI. These cases would be proved effective through practical researches. Finally, the author will give some useful opinions and suggestions about applying the theory of MI to English homework design in primary school.Through the theoretical and practical researches of English homework design in primary school, the results show that the English homework design in primary school based on the theory of MI would be helpful to strengthen students’ knowledge they have learned, increase their learning interests, and improve their enthusiasm and foster students’ multiple intelligences.
