English homework is an indispensable link between English teaching and learning.It is a natural extension and supplement of English classroom learning;a detection of students' English achievement.However,the status of the English homework is often ignored.In order to know the existing problems of the English homework as well as the elementary students' attitude toward English homework,the author carried out the investigation in three elementary schools,found that students are lack of interest in English homework;homework assignments distribution is lack of balance among different subjects;the difficulty level is quite low and innovation is rarely involved;the selection is limited and the individuality is ignored;the form of homework is simple and lack of diversity.The American scholar Howard Gardner suggests in his theory of Multiple Intelligences that there are eight kinds of intelligence,each of which has its own superior intelligence or superior intelligence combination.According to the theory of Multiple Intelligences,English homework integrated with other subjects is not only helpful in developing students' language ability,but also beneficial in making up for the disadvantages of students by encouraging their advantages in their study.The tailored homework will certainly improve students' interest in finishing homework and learning English.This study tries to find the effective English homework for elementary school students by basing on the theory of the Multiple Intelligences.This study is guided by such theories as integrated curriculum and Multiple Intelligences,and the characteristics of interdisciplinary homework.Literature review and questionnaires are used in this elementary school English homework design research.The purpose of it is,through the design of inter-disciplinary homework,to solve the problems exist in English homework of elementary school.Apart from English,the disciplines taken into consideration in this research are Chinese,mathematics,music,art,sports,information technology and other courses.This studyhopes that students with different intelligence features may make adequate and satisfactory achievements respectively and their interests in homework be improved.
