The Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development(2010-2020) points out that the current strategic theme of the educational reform and development in china is to adhere to people-oriented education and to promote the quality education, of which the core is to answer questions as best we could such as what kind of people our schools should produce and how. The emphasis of the Outline is that we must adopt a learner-centered approach, promote all-round development of students, help them develop a sense of social responsibility for the State and the People and enhance the students’ practical ability of innovative spirit and good problem-solving skills. In the background of lifelong education system and building a learning society, the learning conditions and results of the adults has been paid more and more attention to by the whole society. As the adult colleges are the centralized and formal places of cultivating the adults, the research aims at exploring the existing problems of lifelong learning for the adults under the teaching circumstances of adult higher education. Through the relevant data of investigation, the existing problems have been analyzed by the theories of Adult Education and Adult Learning Mentality according to the adults’ characteristics. The corresponding solution has also been proposed in the dissertation.First, the preamble introduces the reason for choosing the topic and research status at home and abroad, as well as the significance, object, purpose, methods of the research. Second, the concept and connotation related to lifelong learning competences has been expounded, such as adult, lifelong learning, lifelong learning competences, the connotation and essence of lifelong learning and so on. Third, the main theories of lifelong learning competences’ cultivation for adults in colleges have been provided, involving Adult Intelligence Theory, and Adult Learning Mentality and Thinking trend. From the viewpoint of Education, Psychology and lifelong learning theory, the feasibility of the research has been described. Then, combined the results of investigation, the existing problems of competences cultivating of lifelong learning for adults in current colleges have been respectively analyzed at length from the aspects of content, environment, mode, purpose and result evaluation of cultivation. Furthermore, the corresponding cultivating mode has been proposed in terms of the above suggestion.
