The selective teaching material is the most direct material that teachers and students contact in their teaching and studying, it is also a significant carrier to realize subject curriculum goals and plays a pivotal role in language textbook, in the meantime, language teaching heavily depend on it Language teaching effect is restricted by the quality of the selective teaching material which also influence the improvement of students’literacy and the accomplishment of language curriculum goals. Since the "One Syllabus, More Textbook" system has been put into practice, the language textbook in China has presented a blossomy prospect. But when it comes to how to further develop language textbook, especially its core component--teaching material selection system, we may be able to draw on the experience from education powerhouse America.This research objects in this thesis are the teaching material selection system in compulsory education curriculum standard experimental. "Chinese" published by People Education Press and "American Primary English" edited by Sawoa, published by Zinn Press. This Comparative Study of Teaching Material Selection System Between Sino-America Primary School Language Textbook could be divided into five parts.First part is to research theoretical foundation of selective teaching material, by demonstrating in three aspects which are Study Theory Foundation, Curriculum Theory Foundation and Influence of Textbook Value.Second part is the requirement for teaching material selection system according to curriculum standard in Sino-America Primary School Language Textbook. Third part is the arrangement of teaching material selection system, and to compare its whole architecture and composition in Sino-America Primary School Language Textbook. Fourth part is to compare three aspects of teaching material selection system in Sino-America Primary School Language Textbook, which are theme, genre and content. Fifth part is the enlightenment for Chinese primary school language textbook given by its American counterpart. Teaching material selection system in Chinese Primary School Language Textbook of PEP Edition could be improved in four aspects which are diversifying arrangement, psychological improvement, entertainment and interaction of selective teaching material through comparing Teaching Material Selection System Between Sino-America according to theoretical foundation of selective teaching material.The method used in this thesis includes Theory Research, Reference Research, Comparative Analysis and Case Study. The purpose in this thesis is aimed to find a scientific way and improvement to compile primary school teaching material in China through discovering theoretical foundation of selecting teaching material and comparing the difference between Sino-America selective teaching material.
