With the increasingly fierce competition for talent since 21 st century, countries in the world have unleashed a wave of curriculum reform of basic education. In June 2001, Basic Education Curriculum Reform Outline issued by the Ministry of Education proposed that we should utilize and develop all kinds of curriculum resources actively in and out of campus. Teaching materials and readings are both important curriculum resources. The current chemistry textbooks have simple language and incomplete declarative knowledge and the text in it cannot effectively guide the students to read and acquire knowledge independently. The students can’t grasp systematic knowledge by reading textbooks, but to gain relevant knowledge through teachers’ teaching. This paper seeks to write excellent chemistry readings to expand chemistry textbooks in China effectively.The research topic of this paper is “the Primary Writing Exploration of Chemistry Reading of Middle School –take The Reading of Atomic Structure as an example”. The literature analysis, comparative study and questionnaire survey and other methods are adopted. By analyzing the literature and the studies of related content knowledge, chemistry textbooks and educational theory, the theoretical basis of readings’ studies and the basic principles of compiling chemistry reading in high school have been planned out, the basic framework of reading was built and thus the textbook of atomic structure was designed. It mainly includes four parts—Early History of Atomic Theories, Modern Atomic Theories— Atom and Atomic nucleus, Modern Atomic Theories—Electron Movement and Modern Atomic Theories—Electron Configuration.Through the investigation and analysis of the application of Atomic Structure Reading, we found that most teachers appreciate the reading and think it increases students’ interest in reading Chemistry Reading; it provides opportunity and convenience to students’ autonomous learning. Through reading the textbook carefully and independently, most students can acquire the thorough knowledge of Atomic Structure. They can know the development of atomic theory, microscopic structure of atom and the relationship between atomic microstructure and macroscopic properties, as well as learn some methods of acquiring and exploring knowledge and develop their abilities of logical thinking to some extent.Though studying the reading as a model, the theoretical basis of compiling chemistry textbook is expanded and strengthened to some degree and some specific methods and recommendations of implementing high school chemistry curriculum standards in our country and modifying and compiling new teaching materials are proposed.
