At present, the society is showing more obvious characteristics of globalization, democratization, personalized and humanization. In this process, people’s subject status has been highlighted and respected unprecedentedly. Human’s developments have more subjectivity and domination, with more abundant resources and divert possibilities. However, for a long time, our country’s higher education is deeply influenced by the traditional education. The rigid education methods neglect the cultivation of student’s creative, seriously hindered the harmonious development of students’ personality. With the progress of the society, more attention is paid to the college students’ personality characteristics and the personalized education gradually becomes the core of all kinds of education thoughts and the pursuit of education practice. The implementation of personalized education is the only way to cultivate innovative talents in the new period, which not only conforms to the requirement of higher education reform, help to promote the transformation of education thoughts and concepts, but also helps to promote the deepening reform of education teaching and help college students’ personality have a full, free and harmonious development. And the personalized education can reflect the request of the virtue, wisdom, labor-round development from a more deeper and comprehensive angle.This paper described the background and significance of personalized education, summarized the research production about the personalized education at home and abroad and sketched the connotation and related theoretical basis of personalized education through the integrated use of literature method and comparative method. This article highlighted the innovation, adaptability, uniqueness, comprehensiveness and permeability by comparing the links and differences between personalized education and democratic education, lifelong education and quality education. Then the author analyzed the subjective and objective reasons of the lack of personalized education and the higher education’s requirement in the direction of the development of personality according to the time development request. Finally the author put forward the people-oriented guiding ideology of the personalized education, builds the education system to promote the development of students’ personality, provides diversified teaching methods, and has a targeted discussion about the implementation of personalized education in colleges. Hope to provide beneficial enlightenment for our country’s higher education reform and cultivation of talents.
