Objectives The study aims to describe the prevalence of self-injurious behaviors of vocational school students caused by learning stress and find the association strength as well as relationship between the two. Methods The research first selected one vocational college randomly from each of the five cities in Anhui Province, namely, Chuzhou, Fuyang, Tongling, Huainan and Luan, and then chose 1-2 classes from every grade(2 grades of Technical Secondary Schools, 4 grades of Higher Vocational Colleges, and 2 grades of Junior Colleges) of the schools as the subjects of the study. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the subjects, and it was voluntary. Questionnaires are designed by the writer himself. The Questionnaire of Copying Styles of Vocational School Students(Appendix I) and the Questionnaire of Learning Stress(Appendix II) for group testing were distributed and collected in December of 2012 to study the incidence and distribution of the self-injurious behavior of the vocational school students, as well as the influence of the learning stress on the self-injurious behaviors, and then the data collected was analyzed. Results The result shows that 40.9% of the students are suffered from mild learning outlook pressure; 51.5% of them are lightly stressed for academic achievement pressure; 47.5% are with light competitive pressure of learning; 27.0% of the students are suffered from learning atmosphere stress, as for schoolwork burden, 24.5% of the students admitted that they were lightly stressed for it; and 27.1% of them admittedthat they were also suffered from pressure brought by learning condition; 42.4% of the students’ pressure is mainly from the expectation of their families. Of all the subjects, 33.5% have the tendency of self-injurious behaviors, among which 38.5% are male students. The reporting rate of self-injurious behavior of different age groups(below 18, 18-20, over 20) is of statistical significance(c2=37.695, P=0.000), and there are statistically significant differences in the reporting rate of the self-injurious behaviors of the students from different places(c2=1.483, P=0.476), including countryside, town and city, and of that of the students from Technical Secondary Schools, Higher Vocational Colleges, and Junior Colleges(c2=12.706, P=0.002), of that of the students whose fathers are from different education background( c2=28.431, P=0.000), associate degree or above, senior high school or technical secondary school, junior middle school, primary school, semi-literate or even illiterate; of that of the students whose mothers are from different education background(c2=29.599, P=0.000), associate degree or above, senior high school or technical secondary school, junior middle school, primary school, semi-literate or even illiterate; of that of the students from different economical background(c2=12.960, P=0.002), very poor, poor, medium, rich, very rich. And there statistically significant differences in the reporting rate of the self-injurious behaviors of the students suffered from different degrees of the pressure of learning outlook pressure(c2=34.469, P=0.000), academic achievement pressure(c2=25.825, P=0.000); competitive pressure of learning(c2=46.261, P=0.000); learning atmosphere stress(c2=58.411, P=0.000), schoolwork burden(c2=66.905, P=0.000), learning condition(c2=49.284, P=0.000), expectation of their parents(c2=33.985, P=0.000). Logistic regression analyses show that academic stress, study competitive pressure and the pressure from their families are the three main causes of self-injurious behaviors. The learning outlook pressure and learning atmosphere stress are in the secondary causes, while the influence from learning condition and schoolwork burden is the minimum. Conclusion Learning stress exerts negative influence on the injurious behaviors of the students. Therefore, apart from strengthening the mental health education, the schools need to try their best to reduce the learning stress of students, which will be also much helpful to decrease the injurious behaviors of the vocational school students.
