Objectives:1 To determine the prevalence of general stress among International Students at Central South University, and its predictive factors.2. To examine the predictive factors of high cultural stress scores.3. To determine whether there is a relationship between International Students home language and Chinese language proficiency.Methods:The study was an observational cross-section survey whose data was collected in form of a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was randomly distributed among International student at the three campuses of Central South University (n=156,36% female). Our assumptions were; (1) the prevalence of general stress among IS is high, (2) the higher the cultural stress score, the higher the lever of general stress, (3) IS official language affects the level of Chinese proficiency. Descriptive, univariate and multivariate statistical analyses were used.Results:The prevalence of general stress was 50.6%and only age was statistically significant (P<0.00). International students (IS) Ethnic background, official language spoken in home country, Chinese Language proficiency and Length of stay were significant to cultural stress high scores. The relationship between general stress and cultural stress scores was significant (P<0.00).The relationship between the students home language and Chinese proficiency was significant (P<0.00).Conclusion:1The prevalence of general stress among International students is high,50.6% and related to age.2 culture stress scores are related to ethnic background, official language, Chinese proficiency.3.connectedness scores are relate d to age,gender, ethnic background and Chinese proficiency.4.life balance scores are related to age, gender, marital status, length of stay in China, Chinese proficiency and CSU.
