The main purpose of this thesis is to study Yan Yuan’s Thought of Moral Education. Yan Yuan is a famous philosopher, thinker, educator and master of practicing pragmatism in early Qing Dynasty. A wide range of academic thinking covers politics, economics, philosophy, education, and so on, among which education shares a larger proportion. In Yan Yuan’s lifetime education, he tried to restore the orthodox Confucianism, promote the studying of "three things" and "three objects", and take these as the main content of his moral education. In the course of criticizing Neo-Confucianism and false Confucianism prevalent in Song dynasty, he developed his own idea of utilitarian moral education characterized by "practical literature", "practice", "performance" and "pragmatism".At present, China is in a critical period of constructing socialism with Chinese characteristics and achieving the overall goal of "five-in-one" proposed by the Party in the 18the CPC National Congress, which needs us to cultivate talents with noble virtues and adapting to China’s actual conditions. The shallow moral education attempting to sermonize and separating leaning and thinking from practicing cannot lead to satisfying effects, while Yan Yuan’s moral education thought could serve as an important reference for current moral education in China. Starting from this, I try to analyze and do a research on the background of Yan Yuan’s moral education thought, the rationale, the content and the goal, the historical influence and the contemporary value.inheriting the pragmatic thought and extracting its unique value, and finally serving for China’s socialist moral construction.
