After decades fighting of Tang Dynasties and Five Dynasties and Ten States, the Earlier Song Dynasty was eventually established. However, the war leads the school education and the talent cultivation lag behind the big demands for talents of the beginning country. It leaded the huge crisis for the Earlier Song Dynasty. In order to ease the crisis, the ruler choose to strengthen the rule of the Imperial Examinations to obtain talents. But this kind of practice makes the education in a more awkward position in early of Song Dynasty:the central school and the local school been more and more declining. Faced with this situation, some people with visions try to change the poor education in their own way.Hu Yuan started his education career in this case and he contributed all his life to the education business. This article based on the historical background and the literature information of Hu Yuan, discussed his practice in education reform and educational thought, confirm the contribution of Hu Yuan made for the education, objective and impartial evaluation to Hu Yuan, contribute my own strengthen to the study of the practice of educational reform and the educational thoughts of Hu Yuan.There are five chapters in this thesis:The first chapter:Introduction. Its main idea is to explain the causes of the selection of this subject the meaning of this topic,the relevant research overview of this subject,key concepts,method of the research and the innovations and insufficient problems of this thesis.The second chapter:The background of Hu Yuan’s thoughts about educational reform. Based on the historical information, we analysis the background in that time from several factors:the culture and educational policy of the earlier Song Dynasty; pay more attention to the imperial competitive examination result in the school’s declining and talent training laggard; unhealthy academic atmosphere in the society and so on.In the same time,further develop the idea about Hu Yuan’s personal life experience on the influence for his ideas of educational reform.The third chapter:Hu Yuan’s thoughts of educational reform. In this chapter,the main idea is to analysis the details about his ideas. After Hu Yuan realizing the problems about education,he doubt about it, criticized it;then,he proposed his suggestion about educational reform. Facing various problems in education and the unhealthy social morality, Hu Yuan threw himself into educational reform business actively. He clearly put forward the educational goal about "putting the essential spirit into practice" and unique teaching methodology. He suggested to put the "Fen Zhai Teaching Method" into effect, set up the unique teaching system. He set examples for his students when he taught them.Hu Yuan founded the most famous "Su Hu Teaching Method" in the educational history in China,his innovation put an exclamation color on Chinese education history.Chapter four:The historical influence and enlightenment of Hu Yuan’s thoughts about educational reform. The thesis states the historical influence of Hu Yuan’s thoughts about the educational reform from the developing insights of official schools and private schools at first.Second,this chapter mainly introduces Hu Yuan’s some excellent students and this is another fact which can prove the success and great influence about Hu Yuan’s educational reform practice. Last,we should explore and analyze the enlightenment for the current educational reform from Hu Yuan.
