The word "inquiry" always exists in the development history of Chinese and foreign education thought. The theory research and practical exploration of "inquiry" by education researchers have never stopped. In order to cultivate students’innovation consciousness and innovation ability, a new round of curriculum reform advocates inquiry learning in the basic education in our country and takes it as one of the three ways to change the traditional learning styles. Education researches and front-line teachers in our country have made a positive explorations on inquiry learning, summarizing and exploring a variety of teaching methods and learning styles based on inquiry learning, such as investigative study, problem teaching and problem situation teaching.STS is short for science, technology and society. STS is a comprehensive and emerging discipline which covers multiple disciplines and fields. It is a new research area and a large discipline group which studies the interaction relations of science, technology and society. The emergency of STS is a reflection of the development trend of modern science’and technology, and also brings us the new way of thinking. STS has characteristics of globality, integrity and innovation, and those characteristics have produced a remarkable significance on education. Therefore, we should deeply explore the education meaning carried by the thought pattern of STS, to provide reference for the new course reform, especially for inquiry learning in China.There have been many achievements in the exploration of inquiry learning and there are many genres and opinions, the common point is that those works focus on finding and solving the problems. Surveying each genre of inquiry learning in perspective of STS thought’s characteristics, we find that weather the theoretical basis research of inquiry learning or practical research of concrete form in classroom teaching, such as problem teaching, problem situation teaching and investigative study, limits problems finding in students’confusions generated in the same subject knowledge area and same knowledge system and does not view universal relation among knowledge from a larger perspective. In other words, they are lack of finding problems from different knowledge areas and different knowledge system. Though deep exploration and summarization of STS thought’s characteristics, we can find the relations among different disciplines and different knowledge from a larger perspective, and broaden students’thinking activity space to cultivate their ability of integrated innovation. In consideration of this reason, we review related theoretical basis, and summarize characteristics of STS thought, and deeply analyze limitations of current inquiry learning. We also propose the point that we should learn to find problems from relations among different knowledge system and different disciplines areas. We do research on relevant classroom practice combing with high schoolideology and politics teaching.This paper is divided into five parts. Through methods like literature arrangement and lesson study, we demonstrate characteristics of STS thought and their inspirations for inquiry learning of high school ideology and politics. The works of this paper are listed as follows:The first part is introduction. We survey present theory study and practice research of inquiry learning in the perspective of STS thought’s characteristics. We rethink the limits found in the process of survey, and discuss the innovation points and space of our research. The research of inspirations of STS thought’s characteristics for inquiry learning of high schoolideology and politics has rich theoretical and practical significance. Although there are many research achievements of inquiry learning, the work of inquiry learning research in perspective of STS thought’s characteristics has never appeared. Thus the topic Angel of our research is helpful to exploit a new research direction of inquiry learning.The second part review and summarizes the generation of STS discipline, STS thought and its characteristics. The development of modern science and technology make people realize the closed relationship between science & technology and society. With the generation of science & technology and society theory and outbreaks of series social movements, STS born as a emerging discipline containing multiple subjects and areas and bring us a new thinking mode. This thinking model have the properties of globality, integrity and innovation, and has positive meaning to education and teaching.The third part discusses the modern education value and application meaning of STS thought’s characteristics. The premise of the inspirations of STS thought’s characteristics for inquiry learning of high schoolideology and politics is the internal relations among STS thought, high school ideology & politics course and inquiry learning. Through the analysis of inherent relationship between STS thought and three aspects, including modern education reform trend, innovation ideas of inquiry learning and subject property of high school ideology & politics course, we demonstrate the possibility and necessity of the inspiration of STS thought’s characteristics for ideology and politics in senior high school.The fourth part surveys inquiry learning and introduces the inspirations in perspective of STS thought’s characteristics. We survey the theoretical basis and classroom practices of current problem-based inquiry learning, and find the limitations existed in current inquiry learning. We specifically discuss the inspirations of STS thought’s characteristics for broadening students’ ability of thinking in inquiry learning, to cultivate students’ability of discovering different discipline areas and knowledge system, ability of find problems in the connection between different discipline field and different knowledge system and ability of integrated innovation.The fifth parts give a teaching example of high schoolideology and politics to discuss the operation of how to put inspirations of STS thought’s characteristics into teaching practice. We survey the teaching example of inquiry learning in perspective of STS thought’s characteristics. Aiming at the limitations found in the process of survey, To explore how to found problems in the connection between the "different" discipline in the subject teaching application. At the same time, we provide discussion and suggestions about operation skills for teaching application: coexistence of’same’ and ’difference’; discovering inherent relationship from differences; emphasizing the globality of subject knowledge system.
