| Making mistakes is a natural phenomenon in the process of learning, and the process of learning is a progressive and accumulative process of making mistakes. The learning can be acquired by continuously making mistakes, especially in the process of learning English. Having the appropriate error management strategies can improve the students’ achievements effectively.Therefore, how to regard and deal with errors seems very important in the process of learning English. The error is a kind of learning resources for the learners. Because the error reflects the deficiencies of the learner’s knowledge, only if the learners find the shortcoming of their learning by analyzing the errors they made, their achievements can be improved rapidly. Besides,the teachers know the deficiencies of the learner’s knowledge by analyzing the students’ errors to adjust the teaching plan, and the effectiveness of the teaching can be improved in time. Minquan is a poor county in Henan province. No matter in economy or education, there are some certain gaps compared with the other cities. Choosing such middle school here to be studied, on the one hand, one can know about the whole situation of the students in the aspect of English error management so as to improve the level of education in the county; on the other hand, we can arose the consciousness of the teachers and the students to pay more attention to error management. The English achievement can be improved effectively by using error management.The author investigated the current situation of error management about the 228 students from different grades, genders and achievements in Minquan NO. 1 Junior School with questionnaire and interview, then analyzed and compared their opinions, attitudes, actions and strategies of error management according to the characteristics of English under the guidance of some theories, such as “trial-and-errorâ€, “error analysis†and related theories about English learning strategies. Besides, the solutions to some existing problems were provided to make the students know about the value of error management and make full use of it appropriately. In addition, the author analyzed the relationship between the level of error management and English achievements. The results are as follows.First, the students in junior school have positive attitudes to error management. They think that the effective error management can improve the achievements, but they lack appropriate actions and strategies of error management.Second, there are no obvious differences among the students in different grades, genders and achievement in the aspect of opinions and attitudes. However, there are obvious differences in the aspect of actions and strategies of error management. The level of error management of the students in higher grade is better than those in lower grade; the girls are better than the boys; the students with better achievement are better than those with less achievement.Third, there are positive correlations between the level of error management and the achievement. The level of error management of the students with better achievements is higher,and the level of error management of the students with less achievement is relatively lower.Some pedagogical suggestions were provided according to the results of the study and the existing problems.(1) The teacher should explain the essences of error management clearly to the students;(2) The students should be guided according to the characteristics of the students in different grades, genders and achievements;(3) The teacher should perfect the measures of error management;(4) The valid system of management and inspection should be built. Besides, the author provided some feasible suggestions referring to some existing problems by analyzing the situations of English error management of the students so as to make the students recognize the value of error management, and they can use error management independently to improve their achievements. Error management belongs to learning strategies, but most of the researchers mainly study the strategies about English grammar or vocabulary, etc, let alone the error management. Therefore, the study has the double values of theory and practice to some degree. |
