With the high popularity of the English language learning heat in China and with the importance of the English in daily life and intercultural communication, English is a quite important major and discipline in high school. However, the education of English in China doesn’t go quite smoothly. Why? One of the reasons is that lots of students in the same class are with their own personal characteristics, their own learning speeds and learning abilities. The class teaching system which has a long history in China leads to the inequality of the students’ learning inside the class. The author listed the notion of the Hierarchical and Class Selection teaching model. All the theories and literature review which are related with the study have also been stated briefly. Then the author designed a research by various research methods including the class observation, personal interview with the students and the teachers, the questionnaires and the data analysis of the testing scores. In the high school attaches to Zhejiang University, there are now there different levels of classes in English teaching process which are A(A for Advanced), B(B for Brave) and C(C for Confident) levels. This study attempts to investigate the influence of the Hierarchical and Class Selection teaching model in English teaching in the high school attached to Zhejiang University. The main concern of this paper is threefold:(1) With the same text books, which parts of the books will the teachers focus on in their teaching process for different levels of classes?(2) What kinds of the problems may the teachers meet in their classes? What will they do to solve the problems they meet?(3) How will the Hierarchical and Class Selection teaching model and PE model influence students’ learning process? By doing this research, the author got the conclusion that the Hierarchical and Class Selection teaching model is indeed helpful for the students especially the students from C levels. During the process of using this teaching model, the teachers need to deal with the problems such as choosing important teaching points from the same text book and completing the evaluation system towards different levels’ students.Meanwhile, there are still many problems existing in the process, such as the communication among the students from different administrative classes, the management of the students from all these administrative classes and so on. Therefore, the research of the Hierarchical and Class Selection Teaching Model and the PE Model still has a long way to go.
