The Inheritance And Development Of Suzhou Boat Boxing In Contemporary Society

The article is based on the research of the problems when inheriting Suzhou Boat Boxing(Chuan Quan) and the development of it, using the methods of literature research, interview, field research, logical analysis etc. Firstly, we went through some literature and did filed visit, making a good understanding of the origin and history of Suzhou Boat Boxing. Secondly, we studied Boat Boxing in Yuexi, Beiqiao and Shajiabang, making a conclusion of the main content, basic technique of Suzhou Boat Boxing and analyzing the differences according to the typical boxing, weapons and technique features in different areas, in order to discover the cultural value of deeper level. Thirdly, according to our analysis to the current condition of Boat Boxing, inheriting Suzhou Boat Boxing is now facing problems as follows: lacking of the right cognition about the traditional status of Suzhou Boat Boxing; lacking of inheritor or strong reserve talents; lacking of systematic materials or scientific guidance; singular inheritance method, lacking of multiple methods. At last, from the perspective of intangible cultural heritage, we proposed the principle that shall be followed to protect Suzhou Boat Boxing, i.e. people oriented, authenticity, integrity, sustainability. This article proposed several solutions to better inherit and develop this distinctive traditional martial art, e.g. enhancing the protection of the main part of Suzhou Boat Boxing inheritance, improving the protection awareness and protection level of inheritors; optimizing the education and inheritance mode of Suzhou Boat Boxing Schools, enlarging the space for the development of Suzhou Boat Boxing in school education; establishing digital protection method of intangible cultural heritage for Suzhou Boat Boxing; promoting the inheritance and development of Suzhou Boat Boxing through media culture; promoting the inheritance and development of Suzhou Boat Boxing via the combination of festival culture and tourism resources; enhancing the inheritance of the traditional culture contained in Suzhou Boat Boxing, valuing the spiritual connotation, fostering regional sentiments, evoking the awareness of protecting Suzhou Boat Boxing.Suzhou Boat Boxing, as the treasure in the region of rivers and lakes, with its special body expressions, is not only unique in China, but also rare around world. We must protect and retain this body expression with the features of region of rivers and lakes. Protecting Suzhou Boat Boxing shall not be limited to just saying or just for show. It should be strictly implemented, making Suzhou Boat Boxing renowned and popular in today’s society, and to be the unique culture label of the region of rivers and lakes.
