This study selected 457 students from few rural junior middle schools in Henan province as a sample. Adolescent Self-Rating Life Event Check List(ASLEC),12-item General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12) and Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire(PPQ) as measuring tools, and the purpose was to investigate the status of rural students’ negative life events, mental health, and psychological capital level, and explore the relationship between the three variables. Professional software were used to analyze the data, the final results and conclusions are showed as follows:1. There is no gender difference in rural middle school students’mental health, but it is different among the three grades. The level of grade 1 is better than the grade 2 and grade 3.2. There is no gender difference in the level of rural middle school students’ psychological capital, self-efficacy and toughness. But it is different between male and female in hope and optimism, female students are better than male students. There is grade difference in the level of toughness and hope:toughness level of grade 2 and grade 3 is better than grade 1 and the hope level of grade 2 is better than grade 1 and grade 3.3. The negative life events that have most affected the rural junior middle school students are interpersonal relationship and study stress. There is gender difference in the other factor, males scored significantly higher than females. In addition to the loss factor, there is significant grade differences in life events and all the other factors:grade 1 scored significantly lower than grade 2 and grade 3.4. The level of psychological capital has a positive forecast effect to mental health.The higher the level of psychological capital,self-efficacy, hope and optimism, the better the mental health of junior middle school students.5. The stress intensity of negative life events has a negative forecast effect to mental health.The higher the stress intensity of negative life events, the poorer the mental health of junior middle school students.6.The intermediary effect of psychological capital between negative life events and mental health is non-significant.
