The degree of satisfaction towards spiritual culture need is an important measurement of living standard. With the rapid growth of economy and fast improvement of people’s material life, spiritual culture need is playing an ever increasingly larger role in human needs. Though different from healthy people in physical conditions, the disabled share equal rights with healthy men considering spiritual needs. Thus a healthy and positive state of mind works as the backbone of the disabled’s everyday life. As it is the intrinsic requirements of social construction in spiritual civilization to care, to enrich and to improve the disabled’s way of living, how to satisfy their spiritual demands has arose enormous attention from the whole nation and society.Guided by the value and strategy of social work, this thesis intends to conduct a systematic research on the disabled citizen’s spiritual demands, by using questionnaire, interview and observation method on the basis of the strength perspective, the empowerment theory and also the theory of social support network and social learning.First and foremost, in this thesis, the spiritual demands of disabled citizens fall into three categories, namely, the basic, the recreational and the developmental spiritual culture needs. Taking the disabled people in street C of Guangzhou as a case after conducting observation, interview and questionnaire, this thesis points out there existing many problems in their acquirement of spiritual culture needs, such as low level of knowledge demands, little interpersonal interaction, inadequate entertainment infrastructure, poor awareness of social participation and also difficulty in self-identify, which is a powerful obstruction to both the disabled’s self-development and the sustainable growth of social economy. On the basis of quantitative and qualitative analysis, this thesis believes there are four aspects of demands in the disabled cultural life, that is, social rehabilitation and security; social interaction and cultural life; social participation and self-identity; social share and self-realization.This thesis does not confine to pointing out problems but also exerts every effort to seek out the reasons behind these problems. Underlying reasons are inadequate infrastructure; prejudice from society and family; and low-income of the disabled which all contributes to the poor quality of their spiritual cultural life. Nevertheless, social workers in China are not well acknowledged which leads to their limitation in access to social resources. So by making full use of available resources, this thesis designs and carries out a series of team work to satisfy the disabled group’s spiritual culture needs about "social interaction and cultural life; social participation and self-identity".Then, this thesis carries out two team work oriented in dealing with the disabled’s spiritual culture demands in the community. By attending the two team support activities called "entertain you and delight me", the disabled are able to enrich their spiritual life, to discover their strength and weakness, and to improve their work-related capability. The social workers, along with the disabled have grown together in this process and have attained their team goals. With their joint efforts, the disable people and the social workers have succeeded to plant an intimate feeling between them compared to helplessness and strangeness in the first beginning. Yet, we must acknowledge that all these achievements are only temporary. In the end, this thesis is aimed to arise the society’s awareness to the disabled group, to satisfy their spiritual culture needs and to provide them with professional, efficient and long-term help. As a systematic program, team work is a matter of government, community, industry and family combined, which should all clarify their respective responsibility and cooperate with each other to enhance infrastructure construction, improve laws and policies on disable people’s spiritual needs and to provide them with caring, warmth and psychological comfort. It’s of vital importance to implement service work for the disabled.
