Based on the survey data from the Service Need of Shanghai family in 2013, this paper examines the status of intergenerational support in Chinese urban family, and analyses the transition under the comparative perspective; we also explore marital status of adult children’s effect on intergenerational support between adult children and parents by using the Ologit model. We find that (1) the support between adult children and parents are still close and are featured by a mutual assistance network system;(2) married women and men have less intense intergenerational ties than the never married by receiving the support from their parents but more by giving,; and link between marriage and on intergenerational support varies greatly by gender: married sons are more likely to support their parents, whereas the need from their parent’s support decreases more between marries daughter and unmarried daughter.
