Inquiry learning is one of the important ways learning in the current reform of basic education system. It is also the essential requirement of elementary mathematics, which is based on our living life. However, due to the conflicts between the abstract characteristics of elementary school mathematics knowledge itself and the psychological characteristics of the children during Concrete Operational Stage, necessary cognitive supports for elementary school mathematics inquiry learning are required. Under this condition, game-based learning, which has gaining more and more attention, provides potential possibilities to overcome the abstraction of elementary school mathematics with the vivid and intuitive characteristics. More importantly, it can provide cognitive support for higher-order thinking in the inquiry learning of elementary school mathematics, thus provides a new way of elementary school mathematics learning----Game-based inquiry learning.By integrating the multiple methods of literature review, action research and case study, the current study constructs a framework of game-based inquiry learning of elementary school mathematics, based on the interpretation of inquiry learning, educational games, and the analysis of the three pillars of game-based inquiry learning of elementary school mathematics. In addition, the current study also generates, implements, improves specific teaching cases during the process of action research. On the one hand, this study can highlights the significance of inquiry learning of mathematics in the elementary school. On the other hand, it also can, to some extent, enrich the elementary school mathematics curriculum study and deepen the current relative research. Meanwhile, by taking the action research as its path, this constant and reflective study can combine the theory and practice, thus promote the professional development of elementary school’s mathematics teachers—not only as teacher, but also becomes a researcher- researcher of teaching and children.
