The modal particle word “A” is varied in both functions and meanings in modern Chinese language, which is of great importance in teaching Chinese as foreign language(TCFL). Importance should be attached to the semantic background instead of merely interpreting it to students. Urgent problems in the teaching of “A” were investigated while the author was teaching Chinese as a volunteer in a high school of Thailand. Some of the achievements of the recent researches of “A” cannot be applied in teaching on account of their focuses on the noumenon, which has proved the failure of bringism in modern TCFL. Value of the researches on “A” is limited in practical teaching due to its small amount, large dispersion and lack of systematicness. Example sentences were systematically analyzed in the book “Experiencing Chinese” which acts as the Chinese teaching material on the foundation of usage and meaning of “A”. Difficulties were emerged as a result of the insufficient of the book. Meanwhile, the misunderstanding of the Thai students was summarized systematically in order to find the difficulties of “A” learning for them. Our purpose is to help the Thai students improve their Chinese by learning to meet practical by solving problems according to their characteristics and learning habits in teachers’ view during the practical teaching.
