For years, the college entrance examination has been taken as the fundamental way of selecting talents in China. According to China’s basic education policy, the education system of China should prepare talents with comprehensive abilities, including sport as an important one. As the students’physical fitness is not tested in China’s college entrance examination, however, the exam-oriented education forces most senior high schools to cancel the physical education of the students in the second and third grades. All what teachers teach and students learn are within the scope of the college entrance examination. For this reason, the senior high students focus on the subjects of examination and ignore doing sport. As a result, the physical deterioration has become more and more severe among China’s freshmen in recent years.In this study, it’s hypothesized that the students would attach great importance to physical fitness if it was an item in the college entrance examination, provided that the students steadfastly stick to the college entrance examination. This thought was considered and proposed by many scholars in China, but physical fitness has never been existed in China’s college entrance examinations. Why is that? What’s led to this situation? Is it necessary to add the item of physical fitness to the college entrance examination, and is it feasible in theory and practice? Is physical fitness test in accordance with the purpose of the present quality education if it is added to the college entrance examination? And how will the students and their parents, teachers, masses and administrative departments regard this proposal? The understanding on and answers to the above questions will helpful to the reform of China’s college entrance examination system.Be means of literature review, questionnaires, expert interviews, mathematical statistics, logic analysis and other research methods, this study does an investigation on the people involved with the college entrance examination in Hubei Province (mainly in Wuhan City). Based on this, this study implements a theoretical discussion on the necessity and feasibility of adding the physical fitness in China’s college entrance examination system, and then it analyzes the questions to this proposal. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1. The value and purpose of the abovementioned proposal is to comprehensively implement the educational policy of China. By doing so, the exam-oriented education will be transformed into quality education, the position of physical education raised at senior high schools, the mass’understanding on physical education deepened, the quality of physical education improved all-around, the industries related to physical education promoted, and seniors Young students enhanced in physical health and power.2. According to the investigation on the people involved with the college enhance examination, most of the participants agree with and confirm to the addition of physical fitness test as an item in the college entrance examination. They think this will push the students to do sports and thus help improve the young’s physical fitness.3. The college entrance examination systems of developed countries provide references for adding physical fitness as an item into China’s college entrance examination. In the meantime, the fact of taking the physical fitness as an item in the entrance examination for secondary school in China also proves the operability of testing the students’physical fitness in China’s college entrance examinations.4. In face of the queries such as"physical education is not a subject","it’s converted exam-oriented education of taking the physical fitness as an item in the examination","adding physical fitness into the college entrance examination will increase the students’ workload"and "it’s hard to keep fair in the test of students’physical fitness", this study makes theoretical analyses, proving these viewpoints are all wrong.5. against the entrance added value of sports subjects on the basis of careful from abroad entrance constitution, the test sports, our individual provinces will sport into a successful experience in academic proficiency test, through the students, parents, teachers, school leaders, the relevant administrative agency staff entrance additional sports subjects attitude analysis, additional physical education entrance examination is feasible.6. There are two schemes of taking the physical fitness test into the college entrance examination. The first is to bring the physical fitness into the academic proficiency test of senior high school, and classifies the students’performances into four classes, i.e."A","B","C" and "D" of college freshmen enrolled with hooks. The second is taking the physical fitness into the scope of college entrance examinations in the form of "required items+elective items", with the total point ranging from30to60. In both of the abovementioned schemes, endurance is the compulsory item (1000m running for male and800m running for female), while rope skipping, long jump/standing long jump and sit-up (for female)/pull-up(for male) can be taken as the elective items, and other items can be chosen according to the specific condition of different regions. It’s suggested that both the abovementioned schemes be further discussed and modified.
