Study On The Elderly Care For The Left-behind In Rural China

As the reform and opening in China has been developing in depth, giant social transformation follows and the process of urbanization and industrialization quickens gradually. Great changes are also happening to the rural society correspondingly. Large quantities of rural surplus labors keep rushing into cities; the migrant workers---a new stratum and industrial group has appeared in cities; at the same time, plenty of left-behind groups, including old people, women and children, also appeared in rural areas because of the outflow of young labors. Among the above, the provision problem of the left-behind ole people has gradually become the focus of social attention. This paper takes the problems of economic provision, life care and spiritual solace that the left-behind old people are facing as the significant contents.This paper has done research to the left-behind old people from the F village, Y town, Tancheng County in Shandong Province from the perspective of social work, explored the present situation and difficulty of provision, analyzed the reasons for the problems and tried to intervene from the professional angle of social work in order to solve problems appearing during the process of provision for old people.I adopt the method of long interviews during this research. This study has found out that the provision problems which the left-behind old people are facing mainly include the lack economic provision, nobody providing life care and the missing of spiritual solace. Major causes of the difficulty that the left-behind old people are facing come from family, government and society. Respectively speaking, children going out for work has led to the difficulty that no one can provide for the old in family; the imperfections of government provision policies and systems has added weight to the provision difficulty; what’s more, the social organizations are not complete and the social powers involved in provision for the old are not adequate. As a vital force, social work has been playing a significant role in solving the problems of provision for the old. Through the construction of social support network, the effects of social support network will be displayed, methods of cases, groups and communities will be used to the most, and the problems of provision for the left-behind old people in rural areas will be solved to the utmost. This research has found out that the construction of social support network in rural areas is an effective method of solving the problems of provision for the left-behind old people. Social work can carry out the construction of social support network better through the professional ways of cases, groups and community to resolve the dilemma.
