Vocational college is a kind of college which is aimed at training talented person ofwhom are practical and skilled and are ready for working at positions about grassroots,production,services and management. As a part of higher education, higher vocationaleducation is a kind of education type which focuses on training the students with boththeories and ability of practice, providing professional and skillful workers for gross roots,manufacture, service and the first occupation post. However, it does not develop smoothlylike other types of higher education. At present, there is still a huge gap between highervocational education and other types of education, especially in the sports facilities andphysical education. In order to adapt to the development of higher vocational education andfoster the higher vocational talents, the writer tried to do some research in the fields of bothcontents and methods of physical education, and summarized the shortages of the highervocational college of Zhangzhou., then provided some theoretical bases or references forphysical education in the higher vocational college of Zhangzhou finally.This thesis mainly uses methods of literature, interview and statistics to deeply andcomprehensively study and analyze the present situation of teachers and students, teachingcontents and methods of physical class as well as the environments of physical teaching inZhangzhou’s five vocational colleges (Zhangzhou Institute of Technology, Zhangzhou CityUniversity, Zhangzhou Health Vocational College, Zhangzhou College of Science andTechnology, Zhangzhou Institute of Science and Engineering). Among the eight aspectsmentioned in Zhenming Mao’s <Curriculum and Teaching>, the writer choose six aspects asthe content of this research, which are current situation of the teachers as well as thestudents, the goals of physical education, the contents of physical education, the methods ofphysical education, Sports facilities equipment and the fund of physical education. Here arethe results: Firstly, teachers in vocational colleges are in disproportion and the class time andteachers’ working training is inadequate, and weekly class and number of single classstudents are over arranged. Secondly, Students seldom do some sports results from the lack ofsports facilities and places as well as shabby environments. Thirdly, there is no unified physical material for students and teachers. Meanwhile, there is enormous gap between theteaching contents and the contents the students are interested in. Fifthly, the teaching methodsare traditional which are lack of Flexibility. Finally, the sports facilities, venues and fundcan’t meet the requirement of students.For the above results, I would like to suggest that we should strengthen the teacherconstruction, teach students with sports consciousness, improve the teaching contents as wellas the teaching methods, and increase funding for sports and improve the facilities.
