With the development of the society, English, as a widely used language, is becomingmore and more important. The level of English writing skills reflects the overallcompetence of a student. So it is very important to improve on the level of English writingskills. After analyzing the current situation of English teaching in her school and studyingon the reform practice in China and other countries, the author decides to go on with theexperiment in group cooperative learning in her English writing class.The purpose of the thesis is to improve the current situation of English teaching byapplying group cooperative learning mode to teach writing in Class Five, Grade Nine, inTai Ping Middle School in Xiang Cheng District of Suzhou. And in order to find theteaching effect, the author chose its parallel class—Class Six as the controlled class. Theexperiment was kept for five months. During the experiment, the students were classifiedinto seven groups each with four students, one group with6students, according to theirEnglish standards. In the experiment, surveys, tests and interviews were used for research.The author collected the results of each important test of experimental class and controlledclass, and analyzed the results of the questionnaire. The results of the experiment show thatgroup cooperative writing can help the students stimulate the interest in study, enhancestudents’ sense of achievement and confidence, and develop the spirit of their cooperativework, and then can help students improve their English levels.According to the study, in the group cooperative writing students must be put in thecenter while the teachers must play as helpers. Meanwhile, attention should be paid to theevaluation of students and the students with low levels. Teachers should also improve theirown professional qualities.
