Slogan goes back to time immemorial in china and permeates in every corner ofour lives. It’s not only an important language phenomenon but also a significant socialculture phenomenon. As the product of the age, slogan reflects the change of socialdevelopment and political and cultural background in different eras. In the meantime,slogan has certain social function, which can guide communitarians and condensesocial strengths, making society move towards to the established goals to develop well.Though slogan makes great success, there are still a series of problems. Especially inthe information age, the continuous development of media and public opinion has beenlimited the effect of slogan and its social function. But the restriction doesn’t mean theloss of activity and vitality of slogan. Slogan still has the value and necessity of itsexistence.This thesis superficially explores the social function from the perspective ofslogan historical changes since the foundation of PRC, and uses other subjects’relatedtheories and methods like political science, media studies and psychology, trying topropose improvement measures of the slogan in the new period to make slogan givefull play to its social function in the future.
