With the rapid development of China’s economy and the change of social structure, pressure from modern social life is constantly eroding people’s mental health. In recent years, the number of people with mental illness increases significantly, however, the mental rehabilitation system develops slowly in China. Most of the people with mental illness still live in the hospital, and the citizen do not know much the life of closed hospital. Thus, the study chooses "Hospitalized Mental Patients’daily life" as topic, so as to make a thick description of rehabilitation in the institution, including the environment of daily life, basic life, interaction and experience of life, which in order to clarify the misunderstand of outside world and make a voice for mental patients. The study manly explores the meaning of daily life for hospitalized mental patients, so qualitative research and participant observation method was selected as the methodology. With three month observation in sickroom3of Y institution, the research made a thick description of patients’daily life from basic daily living, interaction, tactics and strategies.This research found that the welfare agency still has the nature of "total control", and because of the "total control", the basic needs of hospitalized mental patients’daily life difficult to meet. Meanwhile, the agency staff discipline mental patients though time, space and relationship, as a consequence, Y institution achieve the "total control". However, social work is the gap to break the "total control", which should change from microscopic individual service to macroscopic right advocacy.
