A Study On Post-games Operation Pattern And Strategy Of Large Stadiums

In the light of the gradual development of sports in China and the need of undertaking large sports events, many cities have built a variety of big stadiums. Most of these stadiums are grand scale stadiums with necessary facilities and have the capacity to undertake world-class competitions. It is undeniable that the construction of big stadiums provides good foundation for successfully undertaking events. However we should also see that there are many problems such as imperfect stadiums management system and expensive maintenance costs after undertaking sport events. Due to these issues, the management of big stadiums after undertaking sport events has become a significant concern that troubles the operators. The Twelfth National Games of the People’s Republic of China was held in Dalian City Stadium after it was built. After its perfect ending ceremony, the operational issues were coming one after another. The operating mode of stadiums determines their future development. This thesis performs a research on Dalian City Stadium, combined with its own characteristics, to seek a rational business model of development and utilization of the stadium and get rid of operating difficulties of stadiums in order to achieve great social and economic benefits.This thesis applied literature review, comparative analysis, interviews, field surveys and other research methods to perform the research. By reading literatures, the status and development trend of domestic and international operating mode of stadiums after sport events are discussed. And by using the comparative analysis, the differences between several big domestic and international stadiums’ operating modes are analyzed. Based on the actual investigation of Dalian City Stadium as well as interviews with experts and managers, we can come up with the conclusion that the present conflict of the stadium is between the operation management system and the operation mechanism, between undertaking major events and after events operations and between the high expense and low return rates. Economic and social benefits and other issues are also concerned. Then the main factors which affect Dalian City Stadium after sport events can be obtained. After comparative analysis of the current alternative operating mode, with its own development requirements, the most suitable way of future development of Dalian City Stadium operating mode can be determined. By setting the joint management committee, diversification, supporting facilities, traffic conditions, media, development of regional economic and other means, the smooth implementation of the operational mode after sport events can be ensured.
